Primary Research for Opening Plans

Title: Full Moon
Genre: Horror
Target Audience: 15 and over

I will open the film with an establishing shot of a small woods at night. I will then introduce two of the main characters, who are arguing in the middle of these woods. It is unclear what they are arguing about, for no specific details are being told (e.g, "how could you?"). Eventually one of the characters leaves angrily, leaving the other character on her own. She then looks at the time and decides she should maker her way home. A POV shot will be used in a bush behind her, she does not notice that anyone else is there. She feels like she is being followed throughout her walk out of the woods, however, and this is shown by her looking behind her constantly and holding onto her handbag tightly. Eventually she will make it out onto the street, and she starts to walk/run home, starting to panic as she gets paranoid about what is behind her. This will be shown by tracking shots and panning shots. She makes it to her driveway and is just about to reach the front door when the POV shot of someone behind her comes up towards her quickly. She turns around and yells, only to see that there is no one there. She looks around the driveway quickly before getting in her house quickly and slamming the door. Cut to black.

Please give me your opinion on either how this seems good, or how this needs to be improved.

Grace: I like the title of the film as it links in well with the theme of the opening. It seems very  simple but effective as it uses a variety of shots. The characters are introduced very early on in the opening and this means that the audience are able to engage with the characters very quickly and are able to understand what they are talking about.

George: For me, I would go and see this film as it is relatable. It is a setting that the audience is used too and therefore we can emphasise with the main characters. This building of relationships with the characters and the audience as they are introduced so quickly gives the audience time and a connection. I also like the title of the film as it was the one I originally chose in the title survey and allows us to understand what the film is about. The opening will build tension and encourage the audience to watch on making it an effective film opening.

Emma: I think the storyline is very good at fitting to the genre. The shots used i feel will help in engaging the audience. The fact that the characters are introduced very quickly and there is already something happening to them will also help in engaging the audience.
